Attendance Calculator
Calculate your class attendance percentage instantly.
How to Use This Calculator
Formula:
Current Attendance % = (Attended Classes ÷ Total Conducted Classes) × 100 | Classes Needed to Reach Target = ⌈(Target% × Total − 100 × Attended) ÷ (100 − Target%)⌉ | Classes You Can Safely Skip = ⌊(100 × Attended − Target% × Total) ÷ Target%⌋
- Input the total number of classes or lectures conducted to date across the semester or term.
- Enter the number of classes you have physically attended (or present marks recorded).
- Specify your institutional mandatory minimum attendance threshold (e.g., standard 75% UGC/university requirement, or 80%/85% for specific medical or lab programs).
- Review your active attendance percentage alongside the instant status badge: 'Safe' or 'Shortage Warning'.
- Examine the actionable target forecast: exactly how many consecutive future classes you must attend without missing to recover from a shortage, or how many remaining classes you can safely skip while staying above the required threshold.
Frequently Asked Questions
If your attendance is currently higher than your required target (such as 75%), you can calculate safe skips using the formula: Safe Skips = Math.floor((100 × Attended − Target% × Total) ÷ Target%). For example, if you have attended 36 out of 40 classes (90%), the formula yields (3600 − 75 × 40) ÷ 75 = (3600 − 3000) ÷ 75 = 600 ÷ 75 = 8 classes. You can skip the next 8 consecutive lectures and your attendance will land exactly at 75% (36 out of 48).
If your attendance has fallen below 75%, every missed class in the past requires three consecutive future classes to recover back to 75%. The exact recovery formula is: Classes Needed = Math.ceil((Target% × Total − 100 × Attended) ÷ (100 − Target%)). For example, if you attended 20 out of 40 classes (50%), you need (75 × 40 − 100 × 20) ÷ (100 − 75) = (3000 − 2000) ÷ 25 = 40 consecutive classes without absence to achieve 75% (60 attended out of 80 total).
In India and many global jurisdictions, regulatory statutory bodies like the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Bar Council of India mandate a minimum of 75% attendance. This requirement ensures that students actively participate in practical laboratory sessions, continuous internal evaluations, and classroom peer discussions before being certified to sit for final semester examinations.
Most universities grant an attendance concession called 'condonation' of up to 10% (lowering the threshold from 75% to 65%) on valid medical grounds or official representation in university sports, NCC, or cultural events. Condonation requires timely submission of medical certificates certified by a registered medical practitioner and often requires paying a nominal condonation fee approved by the academic council.
Falling below 65% typically leads to being 'detained' or debarred from appearing in end-semester theory and laboratory examinations for that subject. In most university regulations, detained students receive an 'FA' (Failure due to Attendance) grade and must re-register for the course and attend lectures again when the subject is offered in a subsequent academic year.
Institutions strictly penalize proxy attendance with disciplinary warnings. However, attending officially recognized remedial classes, revision sessions, or lab make-up hours scheduled by faculty adds valid attendances to your official college ERP portal (like TCS iON or ERPNext), systematically boosting your recorded denominator and numerator.
